CHAPTER 1: THE DINER INTERRUPTION Marcus stared across the sticky laminate table at his daughter, watching her carefully push a single maraschino cherry around the rim of her empty sundae bowl. The diner neon flickered overhead, casting a harsh pink glare over the fresh, uneven nicks on her shorn scalp. Outside, the Phoenix asphalt radiated […]
CHAPTER 1: THE ASHES OF WINTER The warmth of the bread burned against Ragnar’s palm, but it was nothing compared to the cold ache settling into his chest. He forced his expression to remain neutral, though every instinct from thirty years of iron-fisted rule screamed at him to drop the meager offering. Across the cramped […]
CHAPTER 1: THE STOLEN LIFE The cigarette turned to ash between his fingers as Marcus watched Ray Sullivan pour wine into two glasses. The crystal stemware Elena had insisted on buying for their first anniversary caught the dim light of the kitchen. Marcus pressed closer to the rainslicked window, his leather jacket squeaking softly against […]
CHAPTER 1: STORMTORN ARRIVAL The Harley’s engine dies with a metallic growl that echoes off the diner’s cracked asphalt. Marcus kicks down the stand and swings his leg over the bike, his leather boots splashing in a puddle that reflects the stuttering neon. Tommy Tank Morrison shifted his weight, the cold water soaking through the […]

Sarah Chen lay unconscious on a salvaged cot behind him, her shallow breaths rattling in the quiet room. Little Tommy crouched […]
